Like most employers throughout the country, employers on Long Island are attempting to navigate through the most turbulent economic climate we've seen, probably in our professional lifetime. At the same time, the new administrations in Albany and Washington D.C. have proposed and passed legislation which drastically changes the world of labor and employment law. Jackson Lewis will be presenting an interactive program to help attendees understand and adapt to the "World of Change" facing human resources professionals. Attendees will watch a debate over the Employee Free Choice Act and be a part of a "company-wide" meeting in which a CEO balances the need for layoffs with the company's obligations under applicable state and federal laws such as the ADEA, OWBPA and New York's mini-WARN Act. Other topics will include whether the revisions to the FMLA are helpful or an administrative nightmare for human resources personnel; we also will consider the practical effects of the ADA Amendments for New York employers.
